It seems that a lot of people are unaware about the magical wonder that is Sephora's return policy. You can return anything, even if it's been opened or used, or even if you no longer have the box. If you return the product within 60 days, you get a full refund, and if it's between 61-90 days, you get store credit. In my experience, it's easier to return makeup to Sephora than it is to Target or other drugstores. The person at Sephora usually doesn't even ask why you're returning that product, and returns are often a very quick and easy process.
For the first year of my makeup "addiction", I went a little crazy at Sephora. Lucky for me, I started to return the products that I didn't like. Or were impulse buys. Or I just needed to return to make myself feel better about spending so much money. Anyways, to see the products that I returned this year, keep reading!
Because I obviously no longer own these products, all pictures are from Sephora.com!
The first product on this list is Benefit's Watt's Up highlighter. I know highlighting products are supposed to be "subtle" but this product was just too subtle to justify it's price tag ($30). I've read other reviews that say it's best for medium to dark complexions, so maybe it's just not right for my fair skin but will work great for someone else.
The second product is Girl Meets Pearl, and yes, it's another Benefit highlighter. Once again, this product didn't really seem to do much to be worth $30. Also, the packaging is weird and comes up kind of like a little deodorant (in a bunch of small dots) which makes it hard to blend. I find Benefit is very hit or miss for me. The problem with Benefit is that their products can be very gimmicky. The packaging is so freaking adorable and the names of products are so clever, and that's how they get ya! Benefit does have some awesome products (like their boxed powders and gift sets), but they also have some pretty crappy products that are masked by bright pink packaging and a witty name. So I'm always wary of Benefit's products, and unfortunately these two highlighters did not work out for me.
Next is Tarte's Amazonian Clay and Annatto Body Bronzer. I bought this at the beginning of summer because I'm super pale but like to pretend I'm tan sometimes. This bronzer, however, was too dark for me and looked very muddy. It was also difficult to blend. I'd instead recommend Nars Laguna Bronzer or Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil for pale complexions!
Tarte's Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation brush is one of the few brushes I've purchased from Sephora. It's very soft yet dense, and I really wanted to try it out. Unfortunately, I found that it absorbed WAY too much foundation so it had to go back.
Since I love my Makeup Forever HD Foundation (I'm in shade 115), I decided to try the smaller size (.17oz) of the Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder. There was nothing really wrong with this product, it just didn't make my face look or feel any different. And it was still $16 for this tiny bottle, so I didn't really think it was worth it. Plus, this was an impulse buy because it was in the sneaky little baskets that cleverly form the line to pay at Sephora. I am upset at myself for falling for Sephora's trickery.
Last but not least on this list is Benefit's High Beam. Now, if you are a loyal reader, you may be thinking "Hey! Didn't she use this product on her sister in her last post?" and the answer is yes, yes I did. How observant you are! So back in April, I was at Sephora on my birthday (dangerous, wouldn't recommend it), and decided to finally buy this product to see what all the hooplah was about. I used the nailpolish applicator thing to apply it to my cheekbones, and it turned into a streaky, glowy mess. I had already had bad experiences with two other Benefit highlighters, and decided to just give up. A few months later, I bought Benefit's Full Glam Ahead set (because I wanted a baby size of Bad Gal Lash and wanted to try Stay Don't Stray) and it just happened to come with a tiny little High Beam. One day I decided to be brave and try it out again. This time I dabbed the little brush on the back of my hand and then dipped a finger into the product and lightly dabbed a couple small dots on my cheekbones, and blended right away. Now I know to always give things a second chance!
